A step-by-step routine for using simply Aqua Special Edition with silicone, glass, and metal toys, including how much lube to start with and what to check first.
Quick answer
Use simply Aqua Special Edition as a water-based lube for silicone toys by starting with a pea-sized amount per toy surface, checking that the toy is clean and dry first, and reapplying a few drops whenever drag returns rather than flooding the toy at the start.
Why water-based lube is the safer default for silicone toys
Silicone toys and silicone-based lubes can interact poorly because like materials may bond at the surface, leaving a tacky film that is hard to remove. A water-based formula avoids that risk, which is why simply Aqua Special Edition is a practical first choice for silicone, glass, and metal toys.
The trade-off is that water-based lube absorbs into skin and evaporates faster than silicone lube, so you will reapply more often during longer sessions. That is a maintenance habit, not a defect.
How much lube to start with on toys
More lube is not automatically better. Excess water-based lube on a toy can drip, dry into a sticky film, and make grip slippery before you have even started. Begin with a pea-sized amount on the toy surface and a few drops on the body, then add more only when you feel friction.
If you are using the toy externally, a thin film is usually enough. For internal use, apply a small amount to the toy and reapply as needed rather than coating the entire toy at once.
When to skip simply Aqua Special Edition for a toy
If a toy manufacturer specifies a particular lubricant type or warns against water-based formulas, follow that guidance first. simply Aqua Special Edition is glycerin-, propylene glycol-, and paraben-free and pH balanced, but it is still a water-based product, so very porous toy materials may absorb it differently than non-porous glass or metal.
Step-by-step: pairing simply Aqua Special Edition with your toys
- Check the toy material and any maker guidance: Confirm whether the toy is silicone, glass, metal, or a porous material, and read any lubricant recommendation from the toy maker. Common mistake: assuming every toy accepts every lube without checking. If the maker specifies a different lube type, follow that instruction instead of defaulting to water-based.
- Clean and dry the toy before applying lube: Wash the toy according to its care instructions and let it dry completely. Common mistake: applying lube over leftover residue or moisture, which can dilute the formula and reduce glide. A dry surface helps you judge how much lube you actually need.
- Start with a pea-sized amount per toy surface: Dispense a small amount onto the toy and a few drops onto the body, then spread it thinly. Common mistake: coating the whole toy at once, which wastes product and creates drips. You can always add more; removing excess is harder.
- Reapply a few drops when drag returns: Add small amounts of simply Aqua Special Edition as the lube absorbs or dries, rather than reapplying a full pump. Common mistake: waiting until friction becomes uncomfortable before topping up. Keep the bottle within reach so reapplying stays easy.
- Clean the toy after use: Wash the toy following its care instructions to remove lube residue, then dry it before storage. Common mistake: storing a toy while still damp or tacky, which can trap residue. Water-based lube rinses away more easily than silicone lube, so cleanup is usually quick.
